Our non-GMO Crimson Clover Cover Crop Seed offers significant benefits as an annual cover crop. It is a popular choice for enriching soil by fixing atmospheric nitrogen, improving the overall structure and tilth, and reducing wind and water erosion. Crimson Clover also suppresses weeds through its dense growth, and if allowed to flower, it is a popular choice among pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
BENEFITS:
Crimson Clover reduces the need for synthetic fertilizer by converting atmospheric nitrogen into a usable form for your future plants. It has an extensive root system that improves soil health by breaking up compacted soils and increasing aeration and water infiltration. The strong root system is excellent for stabilizing soil and preventing nutrient and topsoil loss from wind and water erosion. It is also a natural choice for weed suppression since it grows quickly and shades out and limits weed growth. Crimson Clover also has vibrant, nectar-rich red blooms that attract beneficial pollinators such as bees and butterflies, supporting a healthy and more productive ecosystem.
PURE SEED:
99.79% Crimson Clover
0.21% Inert Matter
DIRECTIONS:
Sow 1/2 pound per 1000 square feet (21 lbs per acre) of Crimson Clover Cover Crop Seed in the fall or when your growing season ends. Use a drop spreader, broadcast spreader, or broadcast seed by hand and lightly rake into the top 1/4 inch of soil. For a more even coverage, make two seeding passes over the garden at a right angle to each other. If you seed before the fall rains begin, the seeded area should be watered lightly until the seed germinates.
For nutrient recycling, cut it back while it's flowering but before it goes to seed. You can leave the cut clover on the top of the soil to act as mulch or till it under so the nutrients are released into the soil as it decomposes.
